The Cazenovia College men's basketball team jumped out to an early first half lead and never looked back to finish with an 87-82 victory over NEAC opponent SUNY Poly. With the win Cazenovia improves to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
In the first half the Wildcats used tough defense and great ball movement on offense to take 16-point first half lead going into the locker room at half time. Cazenovia would take the lead just over 3 minutes into the game and would not give up that lead the rest of the game. With just over 5 minutes to go in the half the Wildcats would hold a 1-point lead, over the next two minutes the Wildcats would hold SUNY Poly scoreless while Cazenovia would hit 4 straight 3-pointers to extend the lead to 13.
For most of the second half both teams would trade baskets as Cazenovia would hold onto a double-digit lead. SUNY Poly would not give up as they would cut the Wildcats lead to just 3 points with 41 seconds remaining in regulation. After Cazenovia extended the lead to 5 with 35 seconds left they would hold SUNY Poly from getting another basket to pick up the win 87-82.
Cazenovia was led by junior Will Cutler
as he finished with 27 points on 10 for 17 shooting from the field, while pulling down 9 rebounds. Cutler would finish the game 6 for 8 from behind the arc. Sophomore Raishun Richardson
would use his strong attacking ability to finish with 19 points on 8 for 12 shooting. Richardson would also finish with 4 assists and 4 rebounds for Cazenovia.
Freshman Majesty Wilder
would come off the bench and score 18 points while dishing out 4 assists. Senior Nicholas Filippi
led the Wildcats with 6 points to go along with his 9 points and 8 rebounds. Junior Blake Bagozzi
would contribute off the bench with 8 rebounds and 7 points for Cazenovia.
The Wildcats would finish the game shooting an impressive 53%. In the second half the Wildcats shot 59.4% from the field. The team would shoot 12 for 29 from behind the arc, 12 made 3-pointers were the most the Wildcats have made this season. Cazenovia out rebounded SUNY Poly 39 to 38.
The Wildcats return to action on December 1st
when they take on Keuka College at 3pm.
